Welcome to the first ever jQuery meet up in Manchester being held at MadLab. If you’re looking to start with jQuery but don’t know what to do first, are quite a dab hand and looking to learn a bit more or class yourself as an old pro there will be lots to gain from getting together and sharing our experiences with this JavaScript library.

The first session will be split up into three main parts: Firstly, you’ll have the opportunity to meet and greet and get to know everyone who wants to be a part of the MadLab jQuery group.

Secondly, the floor will be open for discussions about what you want to achieve from the jQuery meet up. This could be recommendations of live demos, presentations and workshops and is a great opportunity for you to help define the direction the MadLab jQuery group.

Lastly, Jon Vines will be giving a presentation ‘Learning jQuery’, delving into the whereabouts of some fantastic resources and how you can burrow into this information to improve your own knowledge of jQuery. If you want to get involved right away, and have an idea you’d like to share, get in touch with Jon Vines at getjquery@webvines.co.uk If you’re keen to get involved we can fit you into the first session and hit the ground running.

Tech IPO – Meet Marcus Stuttard, CEO of AIM

Facebook is now being valued at more than $33bn (£21.3bn) as investors try to secure a stake in the social networking site in anticipation of its flotation on the US stock market (Guardian). Put this in contrast with the value of some of the best known tech companies: Apple: $219bn, Microsoft: $208bn, IBM: $157bn, Google: $143bn, Cisco: $120bn, Intel: $102bn, HP: $89bn, eBay: $30bn, Dell: $22bn and Yahoo: $18bn.

Most of us dream of listing our tech companies one day. Some of us have already achieved this dream or in the process of going through such a journey. If listing is an option for your company, you need to start preparing for it now as the time period from decision to IPO could well take 3 years or more.

If you are interested or involved in IPOs, this is the event for you. Our key objective is to stimulate the discussion of listings once again in the north west of England.

Speakers and Panelists (more to be added)
