Accessibility statement

This page gives details of the accessibility features on the MDDA website.

If you have any questions about these features or have a suggestion on how we can improve the accessibility of our site, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Access keys

You can quickly get to some parts of our site using keyboard shortcuts.

The shortcuts available are:

  • s – Skip all navigation and go straight to the main content on the page
  • 1 – Home page
  • 2 – News page
  • 4 – Search
  • 8 – Terms of use
  • 9 – Contact details
  • 0 – Accessibility details

If you are using a Windows computer, how you activate the shortcut may depend on which browser you are using.

You’ll either have to press the ALT key at the same time as the shortcut key, or press the ALT key at the same time as the shortcut key and then press the ENTER button.

If you are using a Macintosh, you’ll have to press the CTRL key at the same time as the shortcut key.

Please note that not all browsers support these keyboard shortcuts.

The MDDA website uses the UK Government accesskeys standard, which is part of the Illustrated Handbook for Web Management Teams.

Skipping through the page

There are “hidden” navigation links on each page that enable you to skip the bits you don’t want to read in order to quickly get to the bit you want.

These “hidden” links are accessible to users of non-visual browsers, such as screen readers, or users of visual browsers who have cascading style sheets turned off.

Starting from the top of the page, you can skip through the following sections of the page:

  • Logo
  • Search
  • Main navigation
  • Page content
  • Side navigation
  • Footer navigation

Web standards

This website was designed with web standards. This ensures that the content is accessible to any Internet device. However, design elements such as background images and the page layout will only be available to users of visual browsers.

All pages on the MDDA website meet at least level AA of the World Wide Web Consortium’s Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0.

More information about the web standards solutions we have implemented can be found on the credits page.
