Young Rewired State – Hack the Government

Following the success of Rewired State’s ‘National Hack the Government Day’, the Young Rewired State event was setup to offer 50 young developers the chance to build applications and ‘mash-up’ government data.   The event was held in london at GoogleHQ on the  22 and 23 August with developers aged 15-18.

The event was set up to:

  • encourage young developers to work together and give each other support
  • highlight to government the need for good programming skills in many languages
  • showcase young talent in the largest event of its kind.

Rewired State geeks were on hand to teach and assist where necessary; and at the end of the weekend there was a show and tell to government ministers, civil servants, press, entrepreneurs and interested parties/sponsors.  Groups of young developers presented their final projects to a judging panel including government and members of the private sector.

Mike Hoban, director of communications and engagement at DirecgGov, said:

“Directgov is pleased to be involved in Young Rewired State. We are continuously exploring how new and existing data and software can be used to make information available to the widest possible audience, in the most effective formats.”
